Preparing for the Workplacement

Once the placement has been confirmed your child needs to contact the employer or supervisor to introduce himself/herself. This is sometimes referred to as a pre-placement interview and allows the supervisor and the student an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Your child may want to check things such as the starting time on the first day, where to meet the supervisor, appropriate clothing to wear.

Ensure your child contacts the employer prior to starting the placement. The contact may be by phone or in person.

If the employer requests a resume, please ensure your child sends one. Please contact your child's teachers or Western LCP if assistance is required with writing a resume.

Ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the workplacement. What are the dress requirements listed by the employer? Does your child need to discuss this with the employer supervisor?

Please ensure all Education Department paperwork sent home by your child's school has been signed by yourself and your child.

If possible help your child become familiar with the location of the workplacement. Perhaps visit the worksite, check which building it is, check the public transport timetables, or drive there together on a weekend.

If your child has to cancel the workplacement notification must be given to Western LCP.
