Attending the Workplacement
Students can be nervous and uneasy about their workplacement. Often they are going into a new and unfamiliar environment to work with people they have not met previously. It can be daunting for adults to venture into something unfamiliar, let alone for a Year 10, 11 or 12 student. Please be aware of your child's feelings and give them support.
- Ensure your child is punctual. Allow extra time on Day 1 to find the workplace, and/or the building, and/or the office.
- Ensure your child is dressed appropriately. If you are not sure, ask your child to ring the employer and ask what is the appropriate clothing.
- Ensure your child notifies the employer when he/she is ill or has an appointment during work hours
- Encourage your child to keep a record of the workplacement
- Suggest to your child that he/she asks for a reference at completion of the workplacement
- Talk with your child about how the day went
- Contact Western LCP or your child's teacher if there are any concerns
